You know those sugar cookies they sell in the grocery store at each holiday and occasion? Those are my favourite, and try as I may, I have yet to find a recipe or tweak a recipe that taste as good. However, I do feel that this sugar cookie recipe is definitely note worthy, and so I am going to share it. In all honesty, it could be the cream cheese icing that makes them so good!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- 1 1/2 cups icing sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp almond extract
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cream of tartar
***if you don’t have almond extract, it taste just fine using only vanilla***
Directions:
- Mix all ingredients together, doing flour last
- Chill for 1/2 hour
- roll out and shape
- cook at 350 degrees for 8 minutes or just until cookie is barely cooked (don’t let them cook until the edges are even slightly browned or you get a dry cookie)
Cream Cheese Icing:
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- sprinkle of salt
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3 cups icing sugar
- 3 tbsp. milk
- 4 oz. cream cheese
Mix together, doing the icing sugar last. If it seem to thick or thin adjust accordingly.
***I will just note here, that they are also really good with cut up fruit on top***
